Guide to Roleplay.

Hi My name is Mr. Blank, and I'm gonna be your guide to RP( Thats Roleplay by the way.). Here I'll cover what a RP is , a common character sheet, regular rules and how to make your Roleplay. So without further apu, I present to you the long awaited and highly wanted: Contents.

1. What's a Roleplay?

It's all in the name my friend. You play a role. Let's start at the beginning. Someone has an idea for an RP and carefully plans it out. Once you've read through all the information about their RP, you plan out your character. You then follow the Character sheet that they should have provided and you then type up a paragraph or two of what your character does. It's that simple. Then you interact with the story and the other characters, and slowly everything will make sense.

2.How should I go about making my character?

Well most responsible RP makers will leave out a character sheet to fill in. It will look something like this:

Name:
Age:
Eye colour:
Hair colour:
Clothes:
Weaponry:
Personality:
Alliance:
Background story:

All you have to do is fill in these slots and you've got yourself a character. I warn you though, the Roleplayer who makes the Character with a 100ft. long sword with infinite ammo and makes the plants die at his feet while reading peoples minds and summoning invincible demons doesn't make many friends.

3. What are the usual rules?

Every RP maker has their own style when it comes to rules, but these are the most common:

No swearing (No using naughty words)
No spamming (No random off topic stuff)
No bashing (No bashing other people)
Don't mess with other peoples background stories (Don't interfere saying the other characters are your long lost cousin or something, without agreement from the other player)
Keep it PG 13 (No naughty stuff)
No godmoding (In other words you can't be invincible to everything)
Post often (Post often)
Two/three different characters at the most(You can only make two or three characters. Also some RP makers prefer if these multiple characters don't interact with each other.)
Keep on topic (Explained below)
No auto-hitting(Explained below)

4. How should I make my RP?

Well at first you need an idea. Once you have that idea, feed off it. At the point you are happy with the way things are going post your RP. But to make sure everyone else is happy you need a few things. if it's based off something such as MGS, LoTR or WB then mention it. Say what era or time the story's set in, and what's going on (Like is technology is slowly dying of something). If you're looking for a bit of conflict, add what kind of groups that are fighting and stuff (Militia against PMCs, Men,Elfs,Dwarfs against Orcs and Goblins, Warbears against Groundhogs). Add a character sheet and rules. If someone gives comments that your RP idea is pretty bad, don't flip out. lern from your mistakes and kindly ask them how you may improve it.

5. About offtopic...

The general rule is this one : Don't. Stay on topic as much as possible. But if you really need to communicate with other RPers ( Say you noticed a problem in their application or you don't understand where something is going) Use these marks ((Offtopic message goes here)) or OOC:Offtopic message goes here. It stands for Out Of Character

6. Talking, fighting and joining in late...

When talking make sure to:
a)Use italics
b)Use "Message here" marks
This way everyone will be clear you are talking.

When fighting try to make it interesting. Killing the big bear in a singl slash ain't very interesting. Now lets say the bear knocked the sword out of your hand as his claws dug into your arm as he swung his arm in a long sweep. Now that sounded more realistic and exciting. Also another thing is Auto-hitting. Repeatedly hitting another RPer over and over before they respond is frowned upon. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have fights, all I'm saying is that give the other person a chance and remember you can't always win.

When you join in late, make sure to come in at a decent time. Which means coming in for a conversation during a sword fight is a bad idea. Also current RPers should use their characters names and others who they are interacting with in post to keep newcomers up to date on who people are.

Thanks for that, I've only actually seen it a couple of times myself and had no idea what it meant.

More advice is that you make sure it complies with the forum rules. If not, we will remove it.
